​​​​​​​​​Qatar Public Health Strategy 2017 - 2022​

​​​​​​​​​The Qatar Public Health Strategy aims to “create an integrated and comprehensive system that provides effective solutions to current and future public health challenges”.


By implementing the strategy, Qatar will be able to promote the health and well-being of all citizens and residents of its territory, paying particular attention to vulnerable populations.​


Objectives of the Strategy:

  •  Reduce the impact and burden of communicable diseases
  • Reducing the spread of diseases and premature death from non-communicable diseases (chronic)
  • Enable individuals to make informed decisions to improve their health through effective awareness campaigns, and implement disease prevention strategies that enhance their lives and health for longer years
  • Strengthening disaster management and emergency preparedness and disease outbreaks through advance planning.


Elements of the Strategy:

  • Develop a new public health vision by creating a vision of the public health system that encourages significant improvements in the health and well-being of the population.
  • ​Focus on the current health status of the population, which is to know and see the current challenges in the field of health care and determine the activity required for the system to protect and improve the health and welfare of the population

 

The four possibilities of strategy

  • The strategic potential of the public health system is one of the pillars that determine how to strengthen the public health system in terms of capacity, response, and resilience to effectively serve the health of the population.
  • The strategy seeks to develop a detailed framework for practical and effective implementation through collaborative workshops and in-depth consultations with health-care partners. Performance required to address current and future health challenges​​

Public Health a new vision

The new vision for public health is to Establish a dynamic and collaborative public health system that works together to improve Qatar's health and prosperity

 

Public health partners

 ​ 

All public health partners have roles to play. Collaboration within the system is a dynamic and ongoing activity. Public health partners play a leadership role in some cases, while they may work in coordination teams in others. Other partners may be able to provide effective public health activities. Necessary. It is, therefore, necessary to recognize that public health is a shared responsibility and is an important and collective activity that must be supported by all parties. All ministries and public health partners should be aware that community health is influenced by community, economic and environmental factors and is a shared responsibility of all parties.


Basic functions of public health

The public health strategy is based on ten key functions identified by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention


The Seven Guidelines for the Future Public Health System

  1. Cooperate
  2. Support cooperation and coordination of public health activities to allow the adoption of an integrated public health approach.
  3. ​​​​​Accountability
  4. Ensure accountability at all levels of the system to enhance the health and well-being of the population
  5. Trust and credibility
  6. To inform all community groups about health problems by disseminating and disseminating sound, consistent and clear information on key health issues
  7. Cultural relevance
  8. Provide culturally, socially and environmentally appropriate responses to health challenges of importance to all communities
  9. Data support
  10. Relying on data and evidence for sound and effective public health policy-making and decision-making
  11. Flexibility
  12. Establish a dynamic public health system capable of responding in advance to the evolving conditions and changing health needs of the population
  13. Sustainability
  14. Ensure quality improvement mechanisms at all levels of the public health system and ensure sustainability
