In order to be effectively treated, patients must be able to participate in self-treatment, and data indicate that patients who are involved in self-treatment are better health and better protection than diabetes complications, and in turn are likely to face self-management (That is, modifying their physical performance, duties, and activities) further emergency conditions or more serious complications.Several health facilities in Qatar have implemented pilot education programs to educate and empower diabetics in self-treatment of their cases.

Through this pillar, the strategy will do the following:
  • Identify the educational needs of different groups of society, develop appropriate national curricula to ensure that individuals receive the correct messages according to their circumstances, formulate ad hoc messages, identify specific points of intervention, and design and implement appropriate courses in a timely manner for each major patient category. These include:
    1. Children with type 1 diabetes
    2. Adults with type 1 diabetes
    3. Women with diabetes during pregnancy
    4. Children with type 2 diabetes
    5. patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
    6. patients with type 2 diabetes For a long time, those being treated and followed up
    7. patients with type 2 diabetes are not disciplined
    8. patients with type 2 diabetes with complications
    9. caregivers, friends and families of patients with pre-diabetes or diabetes.


  • Providing means and methods to educate patient and enable him to care for himself: By providing consistent and accurate information to enable patients to manage their situation and appointments by understanding when they must take action And why.
  • Following the multi-channel approach to education and empowerment for effectiveness: The education channels include individual sessions, campaigns, group sessions and live events, educational events are available in the community, working environments and schools.
  • ​​Monitoring the effectiveness of education programs and self-care initiatives: Measure the level of impact of each type of diabetes mentor, the impact of key messages, and the value of the different learning channels to ensure that individuals' needs are met.
